Richard A. Sugarman

Richard A. Sugarman joined Murphy & Riley in 2011.  Rich has been in practice since 2000 and has extensive experience representing parties before the federal and state courts and administrative agencies of Massachusetts and other jurisdictions.  His areas of practice include commercial litigation, personal injury, employment matters, and professional liability, among others.  In addition to trial matters, Rich handles matters on appeal to federal and state appellate courts.

Rich is an adjunct faculty member at the Boston University School of Law where he teaches First Year Legal Writing.  Additionally, he is a judge advocate officer in the U.S. Army Reserve.  He spent most of 2011 deployed to Iraq where he was the Command Judge Advocate for the Army’s Medical Task Force.  In that capacity, he was the senior legal advisor to the Task Force Commander, subordinate commanders, and their staffs and was responsible for all legal matters that affected medical units throughout all of Iraq.
