THE FIRM Murphy & Riley, P.C. is a civil litigation
firm concentrating in the defense and handling of liability claims including
professional malpractice (including medical, accounting and legal malpractice),
product liability, premises liability, automobile and land transport,
employment litigation, and insurance coverage matters. In each of these
practice areas we have represented a wide variety of professionals,
manufacturers, municipalities, property owners, insurers and for-profit
and non-profit corporations, both insured and self-insured. The senior members of the firm have worked together for most of their professional careers. Bob Murphy, Rick Riley, and Susan Donnelly Murphy all began their legal careers in the early 1980's at Murphy & Mitchell, P.C., an insurance defense firm founded by Walter G. Murphy, one of the most well-respected defense attorneys of his era. Since the establishment of Murphy & Riley, P.C. in 1993 by Walter Murphy, Bob Murphy and Rick Riley, the firm has gradually expanded to its current size - fifteen attorneys and three paralegals. Murphy & Riley is an efficiently structured litigation firm made up of extraordinarily talented trial attorneys and litigation paralegals, with the skill and capacity to serve the needs of all our clients, large and small. As noted in the designation on our letterhead, we are
not only Attorneys but also "Counselors at Law." Literally,
the word "attorney" means one who represents, or stands in
the shoes of, another. This is certainly one of our major roles as we
proudly represent our clients in and outside the courtroom. As "Counselors",
however, we take equal pride and satisfaction in providing advice to
our clients in a variety of contexts -- some connected to particular
litigation but frequently in more informal ways. We proactively alert
clients to developments in the law, the significance of these developments
to their particular business, and insights on compliance. Likewise,
when clients have general questions -- about a particular law or regulation;
pre-litigation issues with claimants or their counsel; or if the client
simply wants a sounding board for discussion of a troubling claim or
confusing legal issue -- they know that they can pick up the telephone
and contact any member of the firm directly to discuss the matter. Murphy
